Some of you will choose to stay around campus for Thanksgiving and other holidays, but many will travel near and far to visit friends and family. Even getting to Boston requires some logistical planning! To continue our Travel themed NYC bus post, here are some more tips from Savvy Student Traveler!
Airports, oh, don't we love them all!
BOSTON LOGAN INTERNATIONAL
To reach the Logan Airport take the 553 Bus from Cappy's Pizza to South Station (not on weekends). From there take the Silver Line to Logan Airport.
Total: $2.80 (with Charlie Card)
-OR-
Take the commuter rail (Fitchburg Line) to Porter Square, Cambridge. Switch for the Subway (Red Line) to South Station. Take the Silver Line Bus to Logan Airport.
Total: $4.75 + $1.70 = $6.45 (with Charlie C ard)
-OR-
Take a Cab
Total : $50 - 70
Remember: You can always share a ride with your friends, room- and hallmates! (Remember, however, fares can vary depending on the number of passengers.)
PROVIDENCE T.F GREEN AIRPORT
Logan serves many national and international airlines, however, don't foget that it is not your only option. The T.F Green Airport in Providence is well served amongst many by: AirCanada, Continental, Delta, United, US Airwaves.
It is easier than you might think to get from T.F Green to Boston:
Take the direct commuter rail train to Boston South Station (Providence Line). In about an hour you will be downtown, hop on the Red Line and take the train to Brandeis from Porter Square!
Total: $8.25 + $4.75 = $13
FOOD AND TRAVEL
Eating at the airport can be very costly!
After checking-in your bag, going through security and finding your gate, you are exhausted! As you sit down in the waiting area, you will realize that you have at least another hour till boarding (if the flight is not delayed) and, by the time the flight attendant will serve you dinner you are starving! Sounds familiar?
In the rush to the airport it is easy to forget to grab a snack. However, if you don't want to spend a ton on that Starbucks sandwich, you probably want to plan ahead, which can save you $$$.
1. Before going to the airport pack an EMPTY water bottle.
You will pay at least $ 2.50 JUST for water after you go through the security check.
2. Take snacks with you! Chips, crackers and granola bars are safe. Make sure not to bring fruits or dairy products, as those are not allowed if you travel overseas.
3. Wrap up a sandwich to go from home or grab it from Einstein's before leaving Brandeis!
4. Take tea bags or instant coffee with you, so if your airline charges you for drinks, you can just ask for hot water.
If you are willing to splurge a little while waiting at the airport, you can choose from some great dining. Check this out for details about the best airport food from around the country. Boston's very own Logan International Aiport is featured!
